The project required that acoustics in a highly reverberative to be improved to provide a better environment for large scale presentations and meetings was co-ordinated with the installation of high level
tensioned sails.
the open atrium, with a fully glazed roof, raised issues of glare and heat gain that were at best undesirable and at worst created substantial difficulties in viewing large screen presentations and substantially reduced the quality of the environment for visitors and employees.
The introduction of a double layer canopy provided shade for presentations and introducde an aesthetic feature commensurate with the contemporary, open environment. The tensioned screens would additionally benefit the space in that they would reduce heat gain and contribute to improvements in the acoustics of the space.
